It’s been a tough semester for everyone involved in your kids’ education. Even with all the homeschooling, school employees faced plenty of new challenges this year and have more than earned their Christmas breaks. If you’re visiting the Irish Twin’s Momma, you probably have multiple reasons to thank them. These holiday gift ideas for school support staff members aren’t about spending a lot of time and money. They’re just a reminder that a little thoughtfulness can go a long way.
The School Nurse
How many temperatures have they taken? Even when students aren’t physically in school, there’s contact tracing, mask instruction, risk assessments, and endless guidance memos. Nurses have worn many hats in the past year, so encourage them to take a time-out for themselves with a tea assortment, to keep it all organized with a notepad and pen, or to carry their equipment wherever they go with a tote bag.
The Bus Driver
Their schedules have been off-and-on, and when they’re on, drivers have been doing a lot more cleaning between every route to make sure their buses are sanitary and safe. In winter, they likely have cracked and dry hands, and really, it’s impossible to have too much moisturizer. For men, get the good stuff—something with the words “working hands,” “farmers,” or “bloody knuckles” in the title. For women, get a lotion that’s indulgent and smells good. A scented candle might also be a nice indulgence for someone who tries their best not to inhale disinfectant every day.
The Counselor
Whether or not your kids struggled with all the changes this year, your school’s counseling department has been busy. They’ve been helping to ensure that families have the resources they need, giving more advice about depression, following up on absences, coaching parents, and filling in wherever they can. Something homemade and personal strikes the right note, like baked goods. They can always use Amazon or book shop gift cards for reference materials (and for pleasure). A stress ball would probably be welcome, too.
The IT Department
Somehow, the word “troubleshooting” doesn’t even begin to cover what they’ve been doing. Not every teacher is tech-savvy, after all. New programs have mystified instructors, students, and parents alike. And in the beginning, pranksters were dropping into Zoom classes to disrupt everything. Your tech team will appreciate a coffee shop gift card for when they have to work at all hours.
The School Resource Officer
With the times that we are in, we should always recognize the resource officer(s) that looks out for the school’s safety as well as, your child’s own. They are the first ones there when fights break out or when there are threats and more. So giving them a small gift with a handwritten card is a great way to show your appreciation for the safety they provide on a daily basis.
Teachers aren’t the only saints who make sure your kids are still learning. Show that you care with these holiday gift ideas for school support staff members, too. Even a thank-you card will make them feel a little more like it was worth it.
Sincerely,
