There’s no toil and trouble. It’s double trouble. Whether you have a set of twins, triplets, or quintuplets, they all have their own unique habits. Bringing them together in one group is bound to cause a pattern of fighting, biting, escalating situations. Here are the five bad habits twins have and how to break them.
How To Fix Sleeping Habits
It’s common for babies to have sleeping habits, especially with twins. One of the reasons twins may develop a sleeping habit is if they were born prematurely, which happens in most twin births. If your baby is experiencing difficulty sleeping, you can follow these few steps to help begin sleep training.
It’s common for babies to sleep train between four to six months. At this stage, babies can self-soothe and practice falling asleep on their own. Consider the setup of the room. It’s okay to sleep train them in their own space. If they share a room, consider doing everything simultaneously—whatever you do with one twin, do the same with the other. This includes changing diapers, feeding, and playing.
How To Fix Fighting
Twins are born with a strong bond, and the bond is so strong that if one twin gets something, the other will get upset. To avoid any fighting, be neutral. Don’t show favoritism to one twin for doing something right and leave the other out in the cold.
How To Stop Biting Habits
Sometimes, when twins are biting, they’re usually beginning to teeth, so they chew on things such as their crib. Other times, biting is used as a defense when fighting with their sibling. If you want to combat this, respond appropriately by stating, “No! We don’t bite!” A reason to react appropriately is to prevent crying. Encourage your twins to apologize using words.
How To Break Temper Tantrums
It’s okay if you aren’t sure what to do when your twins have tantrums. Take a step back and breathe. Then, take a moment to assess the situation, go to each child and console them individually.
How To Stop Twin Escalation Syndrome
This happens in twin toddlers, and it’s defined as a habit of a twin who copies the other, which can cause a situation to escalate. For example, if one twin starts to cry, the other follows through by crying louder. The best method to manage this is reducing competition between the twins and separating them.
Habitually enforce rules for your twins while they’re still young. Also, keep yourself up to date on the bad habits twins have and how to break them. While twins have many habits, they can be broken, leaving room for better habits to grow.
