It’s always a disappointment when your baby outgrows their cutest outfits. Sometimes, parting with these clothes is hard, but leaving them in a box for safekeeping doesn’t do much good either. If you have another little one or one on the way, you could turn the outfit into a hand-me-down. But you could also try out some of these cute ways to upcycle baby clothes!
Memory Bear
Knowing what to do with old baby clothes isn’t always easy, and you may not want to donate special outfits. Many moms transform their baby’s old onesies into cute little stuffed bears. This is the perfect way to remember an old outfit and gives your little one a new stuffed animal to love!
Get started by finding the perfect pattern–you could buy one at the store or find something online. Aside from a sewing pattern, you’ll need:
- An iron
- Sewing scissors
- A sewing machine
- Needle and thread
- Pins
- Stuffing
Get started by reviewing the directions on your selected pattern. While cutting your favorite outfit apart may be hard, you’ll create something new for your baby to love!
Memory Quilt
Another fun craft for upcycling old baby clothes is making a memory quilt. You’ll need to gather a variety of outfits and onesies to create the perfect blanket. The best thing about this DIY craft is that you can make it big enough to keep your mini-me cozy for years to come! Aside from old clothing, some of the materials you’ll need include:
- A quilter’s ruler
- Sewing scissors
- Pins
- An iron
- Embroidery floss
You’ll also want to buy cotton fabric for the backing to ensure it keeps your baby warm! Once you get started, cut the clothing into equal squares, so measure carefully. Pin your fabric, then sew each square together. Since this could be a large project, make sure you have enough space to lay out your materials and work.
Memory Pillow
Another cute way to upcycle baby clothes is by creating an accent piece for the family room. Since your little one’s clothes are small, you’ll need to pick a few outfits. Of course, this shouldn’t be too hard! Similar to making a quilt, cut equal squares, and sew them together. A few materials you’ll need on hand include:
- Sewing scissors
- Fabric
- Stuffing
- Measuring tape
- Pins
Once you’ve measured and cut your fabric, get to sewing the pieces together! This easy project gives you a chance to hold on to those special outfits. And nothing beats homemade memorabilia, especially when it reminds you of your child!
