Things that go can be fascinating, especially to children. There is nothing wrong with this interest, and it is something that you can even encourage. However, fostering your child’s love for planes, trains, and automobiles may not be as simple as it seems. Luckily, there are things you can do to set them on the right path.
Visit Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
One of the best ways to start their journey is with a trip to see the objects in question. Your kids will love to see a train station or airport in person. A museum trip can also be a great idea, as long as it has information regarding your child’s favorite vehicles. This trip will teach them the basics and ground their hobby in reality.
Here are a few ideas by state:
Watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
The comedy is currently available to stream on HBO Max, but you also have a handful of rental options. Vudu, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube, and iTunes all offer Planes, Trains and Automobiles to rent for $3.99 — which just happens to be the cost of a 1987 movie ticket.
Playing with toys is a natural step for most kids. Gifting your child a model train set or a bunch of smaller cars for their birthday is a great idea. Some of these smaller toys can be found in chain stores without needing to go out of your way or shop at a specialty store.
There are a plethora of books with educational and fun information about these topics. One of the easiest ways to find these books is to go to your local library. The workers there should be able to point you in the right direction. You should be able to find a large variety of books in different styles, giving you plenty of options to choose from.
Some books to choose from:
Let Them Explore
Now that you have set your child up for success, leave them to it. Your child will explore the subject at their own pace, finding what interests them and what doesn’t. You should let this happen naturally to avoid discouraging them. That is not to say you should avoid discussing the topic with them. Instead, listen to them and join in the conversation when they invite you. Help them when they ask, but give them the freedom to enjoy their interest on their own as well.
These are the key steps to fostering your child’s love for planes, trains, and automobiles. Keep an open mind and listen to what your kid wants regarding their hobby. They will be the best guide for what they want. Who knows? By encouraging your child’s interests now, they may even want to enroll in flight school one day.
