Every pregnancy is precious to a mom, and if you’re a mom-to-be for the second time around, you get to experience the joys and difficulties that come with raising a baby while carrying a new child. Even if you’re not planning on raising twins and it’s simply your second baby, making the second pregnancy go just as smooth—if not smoother—than the first should be a priority. Consider some healthy ways to improve your second pregnancy when you want to reduce the pain and utilize the knowledge that you’ve gained from the first pregnancy.
Watch Your Weight
During your first pregnancy, you may have been at the perfect weight to keep both yourself and a baby healthy. If you haven’t taken the time to shed some of the extra fat from the first pregnancy, you may have a different weight at the start than you did with the first baby. For a healthy pregnancy, keep yourself at a healthy weight—not too skinny but not too heavy. It may take six months or more to return to your prior weight—so be patient!
Pregnancies that start with an underweight mother can be just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than with an overweight mother. If you find that you weigh less than average, try putting on a couple of pounds before your second pregnancy. It may help to focus on your nutrition about six months before you want to conceive, though this isn’t always possible (especially with twins).
Do Something About Intense Pregnancy Pains
It’s common for the second pregnancy to be more painful for your body than the first one, especially when you have to pick your child up if they are a newborn or toddler. If you want your second pregnancy to be better than the first, you must do something about the pain—especially if it feels abnormal in any way.
For instance, if you experience shooting pains in the pubic area during your third trimester or after the baby is born, you may be experiencing Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD). You don’t have to live with the pain—with a doctor’s consent, you may be able to seek chiropractic care for your case of SPD rather than just live with it as you may have during your first pregnancy.
Even though you’ve experienced pregnancy once already, it doesn’t make you an expert on how your body will react to pregnancy the second time. Anything can happen; it’s important that you continue to see your doctor just as you would for your first pregnancy. As you move through the motions of pregnancy, do your best to come up with new healthy ways to improve your second pregnancy, and even consider making the process better for potential future pregnancies.
Sincerely,
