Promote Development but Don’t Over-Analyze
It’s so important for parents to help their kids develop, but that can also be a double-edged sword. Where promoting development in children is essential, parents can also end up going overboard. Some spend all their time and focus on development and developmental activities and conversations, when really, having fun and spending time with kids is one of the best ways to help them.
Do your best not to over-analyze each step in the process. Rather, delve into the beauty of creating a meaningful relationship with your kiddos.
Plan and Talk Smart About Food
Nourishment is obviously essential for kids (for any age, really), but how you talk about food with kids will make an impact on how they view food in the future. When you’re planning meals, when you’re laying out snacks, when they’re throwing a fit about wanting more candy, you have to be smart. You don’t want to use desserts as a reward, as that can skew how they view sweets.

Start Saying No Early
One of the most important parenting tips every new mom needs involves how and when you say no. You may feel tempted to say yes to every little thing your sweet child asks, but that’ll set up unreasonable expectations for the future, which means temper tantrums galore. Start saying no early on. This will get them used to not getting everything they want, resulting in a more self-sufficient child in the future.
Find Your Venting Crew
This is another important tip—find your crew. If you try to deal with everything by yourself, even just with you and your partner, you may find that stress will quickly overwhelm you. Find a group of friends or other moms that you can turn to when you’re stressed. Talking about your day, talking through any worries you have when it comes to your child, or even just passing the time with people other than your child can keep you from burning out.
Live in the Now
Going along with our first point of not over-analyzing, try your best to live in the now. We get it—it’s easy to worry so much about your kids, their health, and their happiness. But too much worry, too much planning, and too much emphasis on success can create anxious, stressed kids. Do your best to live in the moment with them. Show them the beauty of laughter and going with the flow. It’ll make a big difference for them and you!
