There are several things the same about having Irish twins, but there are some that are different than having traditional twins. I want to introduce Lisa who is an amazing twin mom that has a full-time job and has been blogging since 2017.
Lets Meet Lisa:
When you found out you were having two children, twins, how did do you prepare?
We did fertility treatments to conceive so were aware of the possibility of twins, but we were still in shock when we found out. I prepared by reading I think every pregnancy book on the market! haha
What was your favorite pregnancy book?
Belly Laughs by Jenny Mcarthy. It was super funny and I loved it!Did you purchase two of everything?
Since I was having boy/girl twins I did purchase 2 of a lot of things. I purchased one swing though and stuff like that. Things that are not used often I only purchased one of them.
Did you find it challenging feeding and changing them one after the other?
Yes, at first. But after a while, you get into a routine. I had the benefit of them being my 1st children so I really didn’t know any different.
Did you find it challenging with the middle of the night making a feeding schedule and what are your tips?
Yes of course. I think I lived in a sleep-deprived haze for the 1st year. My tip would be to wake the other child up if one wakes up to feed. I know it sounds mean, but it is the only thing that will save your sanity.
What tips do you have for leaving home with two newborns?
I don’t really have any tips, but I will say don’t be afraid to take them places. The first few times will be hard and it will seem daunting. But it gets easier.
What is the worst experience you had going out with twins?
Going out when two kids are potty training at the same time is super hard. It is not easy to get 2 kids out of car seats quick enough when you hear “I gotta go potty!” from the back seat.
What would you share with other moms about having twins?
Get a routine and schedule. Having a schedule is literally the only way I survived!
Is potty training difficult with Twins or are they learning off each other?
Potty training was not difficult in itself. Going places with 2 kids potty training was the difficult part. My twins did not learn from one another. I think it is because of the different genders. Girls tend to potty train earlier than boys.
Do they share their toys or do they like different things?
They share some but definitely liked different things. They have very opposite personalities.
Thank You, Lisa!
When we look at Irish twins vs. twins you can see that there is still the normal difficulty with potty training two children, as well as, their personalities are complete opposites. The mom’s fear of leaving home with two infants is the same too as you struggle and try figuring out how to put two children in a shopping cart. The answer is kids in one shopping cart and food in the other. However, Wal-mart Grocery has saved the day and made is so much more convenient for families everywhere.
Sincerely,
