Making your house more secure doesn’t always mean having to purchase vast and expensive security alarm systems. It can be as simple as turning on a light. Discover some low-cost ways to improve your home security that you can implement today if need be.

Low Cost Ways to Improve your home Security

  • Motion-Activated Lights
  • Hide Valuables From Plain Sight
  • Make It Seem Like You Are Home

Motion-Activated Lights

Installing motion-activated lights on the outside of your home can be enough to scare off burglars or wild animals. The immediate presence of a bright light shining on them will make them feel exposed and as if someone is watching them. Make sure to choose proper floodlighting and bulbs that will have the appropriate effect.

You can even install a fake camera next to the light to make them believe that they are being watched and recorded. Most times, the mere appearance of surveillance is enough to scare off intruders; it may lead them to choose another home that seems less defended.

Hide Valuables From Plain Sight

This may seem like an obvious one, but it can be easy for us to forget the presence of a large window next to our living room. It can expose valuables, whether it is TVs, video game consoles, or other expensive items. You can’t hide these away at the end of every day, so make sure to close the curtains to hide what is inside.

Additionally, properly conceal boxes of expensive items when you throw them out. If someone sees the box to a large, new television or an expensive gaming console in your trash, it may encourage them to break into your home. The less information they have about your possessions, then the less likely they are to target your home.

Make It Seem Like You Are Home

If you are away for an extended period of time and can’t find any house-sitters, then buying an inexpensive outlet timer can help. Being away for days or weeks at a time has some obvious indicators; a pile of newspapers, lights that are never on at night, and no cars ever leaving.

Purchasing an outlet timer leads potential intruders to believe there is someone awake and active in the house and that it is not safe to go in. There are now timers you can activate remotely, so you can turn lights on and off at will.

Low Cost Ways to Improve your home Security

Doorbell with Voice

Having a doorbell that you can talk through will make others think you always home but just may not be able to come to the door. This is a good deterrent and now they also have video recording so you can even keep an eye on the delivery of packages that are supposed to be arriving even when you are unavailable to respond.

You probably have heard about these for the past serval years, but they don’t have to be expensive or difficult to set up anymore. Technology has come a long way to make it easier for the busy homeowner. They have been upgraded to some including the recording, battery, and even a light to help with capturing crisp images of the visitors that are stopping by your front door.

Overall, protecting your home does not have to mean high-end security systems. Low-cost ways to improve your home security can be all you need most times. Take the extra steps to further protect your home, your valuables, and your family.

Sincerely,
