Having children is enough to turn every parent’s life upside down. Even as the children start to grow older and become more independent, there are still many things you can do that will make your home a more enjoyable place for your kids. Here are five tips for creating a child-friendly living room.

  • Make Furniture Work for You
  • Rugs and Carpeting
  • Durable Fabrics
  • Comfortable Seating Options
  • Creative Storage Spaces
  • Rounded Edges

Make Furniture Work for You

Look for pieces that double as storage. For instance, this round coffee table features a flat top for playtime, along with a handy deep drawer for stowing away toys. Quick clean up options are a must for maintaining a clutter-free and stylish living room.

Tips for Creating a Child-Friendly Living Room

Rugs and Carpeting

For most children, playing on the floor is a favorite pastime. But it can get quite uncomfortable to spend all of that time on hardwood floors. Installing carpeting or laying down some area rugs is a fantastic way to make the time more enjoyable for your children and less achy for mom and dad when they drop down to join the fun.

Durable Fabrics

There may not be any use crying over spilled milk, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with the stains. As any parent will confirm: children are messy, and you should never underestimate their ability to destroy a cleanroom.

The solution is slipcovers (and maybe a few extra throws that can easily be washed. The best thing about choosing white or neutral upholstery for your furniture is that you can easily change the style of your room with accessories.

Selecting durable fabrics while decorating makes future cleanups much easier to manage. Leather is a durable material that will stand up to years of wear and tear from kids and pets. It’s easy to wipe down and keep clean and will maintain its good looks over time. If you’re worried about scratches marring the finish, look for distressed leather, where scratches will blend right in.

Comfortable Seating Options

Uncomfortable couches and sofas can prevent your kids from settling down. Thankfully, there are comfy seating options for adults and children of all body sizes. Bean bag chairs make a great option for the young ones while the adults and older children snuggle up on the couches and sectionals.

Creative Storage Spaces

Creative storage is all the rage in playrooms and bedrooms, but the trend can also extend into the living room. Tables, benches, and ottomans are all available with different storage capacities. And when the children grow older, you can fill the space with blankets or pillows for family movie nights.

Make the most of the space you have. Keep the space tidy with hooks for coats, baskets for out-of-sight storage, and shelves for shoes.

Rounded Edges

The final tip for creating a child-friendly living room is to eliminate pointed edges. Children love to run around and play, and this can easily land a family in the ER if you don’t childproof your furniture. Try to incorporate more rounded edges into your home’s décor to keep the kids safe.

Sincerely,
