Where to Travel with Your Kids at Every Age

Traveling with kids is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. Moms need to know they are traveling to places that are both safe and jam-packed with activities. The right destination is even more important when you have kids of multiple ages traveling with you. Make sure you pick one of these great destinations that are fun for toddlers to teens and beyond.

San Diego

Undoubtedly, one of the best places to travel with kids in San Diego. This Southern California hot spot is filled with activities for all ages. When looking for things to do in San Diego with kids, look at Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, the New Children’s Museum, and Old Town California, but don’t stop there. The more you look at San Diego, the more you will find! Don’t forget to plan at least a couple of days on the beach. Shell Beach and La Jolla Cove are just a couple of the favorites among visitors to San Diego.

Disney World

If you’re looking for a place that has it all, Disney World is the place to be. The Orlando resort complex is comprised of multiple locations that are fun for everyone. Animal Kingdom is a zoo and amusement park in one. Hollywood Studios has thrill rides for older kids while still having plenty for the younger crowd. Epcot lets families explore multiple countries without leaving Florida. The Magic Kingdom is magical to everyone, no matter what age they visit.

Philadelphia

Teach your children about history by visiting the birthplace of the nation. Head to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Revolutionary War Museum to show children of all ages how our great nation came to be. Continue learning at the country’s first zoo, Philadelphia Zoo, and then head over to the Franklin Institute for some hands-on science fun.

Niagara Falls

The United States is filled to the brim with beautiful and breathtaking places. One of those is Niagara Falls. Take a ride around Horseshoe Falls, go on a tour behind the falls, or head up to the Skylon observation tower to see all three falls at once. Niagara also has plenty of fun things to do away from the water. Kids will love the wax museums, the Midway, the Niagara Skywheel, and so much more.

Las Vegas

The moniker of “Sin City” has been replaced by a family-friendly metropolitan area. There are a number of shows within Las Vegas that are specifically geared toward families. There are also multiple attractions that have been built to encourage family tourism. Hershey’s Chocolate World, the Shark Reef Aquarium, the Adventuredome, and the Big Apple Roller Coaster are just a few of the fun attractions that work for the youngest and oldest in the family. Best of all, Las Vegas is a year-round destination. Visitors can head to Las Vegas any time of the year and be greeted by warm, welcoming weather.

Yellowstone

A must-see for nature lovers is Yellowstone National Park. It was the nation’s first national park and continues to delight visitors throughout the year. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are great ways to spend the days at Yellowstone. Families can take tours or explore on their own. If you do decide to forego a guided tour, make sure you see the Grand Prismatic Spring, Morning Glory Pool, Artist Point at Yellowstone Canyon, and, of course, Old Faithful. Families that want to visit in the winter can even strap on snowshoes or go skiing for an adventure that won’t be forgotten.

Seattle

A family trip to Seattle exposes children of all ages to the unique culture and environment of the Pacific Northwest. Children love the activity of Pike Place Market and the revolting beauty of the nearby Gum Wall. Those with an interest in flight can take a tour of the Boeing factory or spend an afternoon at the Museum of Flight. Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture is a spot with something for everyone in the family. While there, don’t forget to take a trip inside the Space Needle. Kids will love the Loupe with its rotating glass floor that lets them see all of Seattle and beyond.

 Crater of Diamonds State Park

When planning your family vacation, Arkansas might be the last place on your mind. However, this southern state has plenty of appeal for families who want to experience something different while keeping costs low. Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in southwestern Arkansas, about halfway between Hot Springs and Texarkana. The 37-acre park is one of the nation’s top spots for gem hunting and one of the few that is open to public digging. Over 33,000 diamonds have been found here, including the largest diamond ever found in the United States. Visitors can camp onsite, hike through the nature area, and enjoy a nearby water park. 

Charleston

Combining an educational experience with a day at the beach is what Charleston is all about. Take children to the Angel Oak on John’s Island, where they will see a 400-year-old, six-story tree. Go to Fort Sumter, where the entire will learn about the Civil War after a 30-minute boat ride to reach the site. Cypress Gardens is a great place to study nature. When your family is exhausted from all of the learning activities, head to one of the many public beaches to soak up the sun. A favorite for families is Folly Beach County Park.

Acadia National Park

Maine is a rich and beautiful state with landscapes that will take anyone’s breath away. Acadia National Park is one of the top-visited national parks in the country thanks to more than 150 miles of hiking trails, numerous campgrounds, and kid-focused activities. Children can join the Junior Ranger Program, where they are encouraged to explore the park in exchange for being made an official Junior Ranger. They’ll also enjoy a ranger-guided boat cruise, the hands-on nature center, or a day at the beach.
