The boys don’t care for skittles and neither do we so I decided this morning since it was in the very low 40s that we would come up with some games by using them. Here are two games that I came up with that teach kindness and thankfulness.
Supplies Needed for the Games:
- Printed Skittles Game for Kindness or Thankfulness (download below)
- Bag of Skittles (or M&Ms but instead of purple you will use brown)
Kindness Skittles Game:
Our kids need to be equipped to handle tricky situations or tough situations or mean kids with grace, confidence, and kindness.
There are 100 reasons why we want them to be kind and to be a good friend. Kind people make the world a better place, one smile, one door held open, one crayon shared at a time.
Kindness is contagious and has a ripple effect. So my kids’ small acts of kindness will have a bigger impact than they’ll ever even know. I want them to be the kind of people who go out of their way to be considerate and helpful to those around them without expecting anything in return.
My 2 and 3-year-old enjoyed it a lot even though some of my questions I had to help my two-year-old with. Though the stories I was getting were funny. Luke, two-years-old, told me that his friend said na-na-a-boo-boo and that’s not nice. I think he was really starting to understand it.
Directions for the game:
Everybody can take 5 or 1 of each color. Then go around telling how kindness for others made you feel or how you can show it to others with the corresponding color. After you answer the question you get to eat the Skittle, if you want.
If your kids don’t like Skittles see below for an alternative.
Thankful Skittles Game:
This Skittles Thankful Game is a fun simple game that is great for helping kids of all ages and really the whole family help think of all of the many things they have to be grateful for. With Thanksgiving approaching quickly this is a wonderful game.
Directions for playing the game:
All you need is a simple bag of Skittles. We used leftover fun size bags from Halloween. Everybody can take 5 or 1 of each color. Then go around telling what you’re thankful for with the corresponding color. After you say what you’re thankful you get to eat the Skittle, if you want.
If your kids don’t like Skittles see below for an alternative.
If your kid’s don’t like to eat Skittles:
My kids, however, didn’t care for eating the Skittles so for each thing they were thankful for or that they answered on kindness they put on a plate off to the side. Once all the skittles were gone from the center they lined them up around the edges of their plate.
Then I would dump a little bit of tap water into the middle. We sang our alphabet song and by the time we were done, we were able to see the colors combining together.
WARNING: Your kids may enjoy this so much that you will repeat the process at least 5 times.
I hope you have a fun time as we did!
Sincerely,
Monica
