When it comes to caring about ourselves, sometimes we don’t focus on the why. As moms, we are asked to give constantly to our kids and even to our significant other. With a never-ending load of chores and expectations, it can seem like we’re the bottom priority amongst a million emergencies. We’re the engine that drives everything in our lives. Without us at our tiptop game, it can all fall apart. That is why taking time to ourselves is absolutely essential. The best ways to pamper yourself on a budget don’t have to take up a lot of time or money.
Make ‘Me Time’ a Rule
One of the first things you must do is realize you’re worth the extra time. If you’re starting to feel frazzled, then you must have a serious talk with yourself regarding the right time to pamper. Double-check your schedules for holes. Try adding five more minutes of alone time in a few spots, such as first thing in the morning and before bed. With kids, the evening is a great time to get in much-needed solitude and quiet as they sleep. Grab a good book or a favorite movie and snuggle up on the couch or in bed.
Take an Extra Long Bath
This is easily one of the best ways to pamper yourself on a budget. Even the busiest mom in the world takes a little time to decompress in a shower or bath. Try adding another ten or twenty minutes to a bath to relax, soak in the water, and try out a few simple yet elegant things like a new scent of bubble soap, a bath bomb, or even just a nicer bar of soap. Buying a nicer variety of hygiene products is a great way to go about self-care without adding more than a dollar or two to the usual shopping list. Soaps, for instance, are not all great. Check the ingredients and consider finding a simpler soap that is kinder on your skin. Natural soaps can be an amazing change and you’ll know exactly what’s in them by exploring how they are made.
At-Home Spa Treatment
Another popular way to pamper yourself on a budget is with a home spa treatment. The self-care industry has made massive leaps and bounds with bringing high-quality products out of the salon and into end consumers’ hands. For very little money, quality nail care, skincare, and even massage tools can be obtained. You’ll be amazed at the difference in how you look and feel with just a little extra effort put into your routine.
Buy yourself flowers
You don’t have to wait for someone else to buy you flowers. Buying fresh flowers is one of my favorite forms of pampering. A $20 bouquet of roses will not only lift your spirits, but I’ll give your space a chic vibe. So the next time you go to the grocery store, pick up a bouquet for yourself.
Cozy up to a book and tea
Reading a great book is always relaxing. Couple that with some nice, warm tea and you’ll be in for a calming night.
Steal a moment of time in the morning before the kids have woken up, before leaving for the office, or in the evening after kids are in bed and you’re done working and make yourself a cup of hot, herbal tea.
Just relaxing for a few moments while sipping on herbal tea is a great way to relieve stress.
Get some extra sleep
Sleeping in may not seem like a form of pampering, but it is. It is just as much a form of self-care and pampering as a massage. The great thing is that it’s completely free. Giving your body time to reset and recover will leave you feeling refreshed and pampered. Simply pick a day to clear out your schedule and get some rest. Make sure you’re wearing some comfortable pajamas and your favorite eye mask!
Have a picnic
Picnics are always a fun, inexpensive way to pamper yourself. It allows you to get some much-needed Vitamin D and fresh air. Make yourself a sandwich and pack a blanket, some snacks, and drinks, and head to your local park. You can soak under the sun with a good book or some music.
Have a candlelight dinner
Nothing says pampered more than good food. Have a fun night cooking your favorite recipe and enjoying it by candlelight. If you’re not much of a cook, you can add takeout to your meal plan for the week and order in. Make it fancy by serving it on your best china and pulling out your dark table cloth.
