The life of a mother can be hectic. You have to balance work, school, kids, pets, and the rest of your home. With all of that and more happening every day, you may find it hard to take time for yourself. But that’s exactly why setting aside time for your own interests is necessary. Hobbies help you create boundaries in your schedule and dedicate part of your week to doing something you enjoy. Whether you’re looking to expand your social life or relish in some alone time, there’s a hobby that can help you accomplish these goals. Give yourself the chance to unwind and pursue your interests with these enriching hobbies for mothers to try.

Crafty Keepsakes

Do you enjoy tucking little memories and keepsakes away so that you can look back at them later? You’re not alone. That’s why scrapbooking and creating shadow boxes are such great pastimes. These projects are the perfect way to gather pictures, letters, ticket stubs, and other fun mementos. They’re also a brilliant creative outlet—or a way to try new skills. Get fancy with your scrapbook entries by learning calligraphy. Shadow boxes and scrapbooks give you a creative way to use wax seals, which can add a touch of elegance to any crafting project you want to try. You can also decorate pages or boxes with ribbon, stamps, dried flowers, or other fun additions. Let your creativity out, and create keepsakes your family can enjoy for years.

Cooking and Baking

Some including myself at times LOVE food. It can be so relaxing to just be creative and be able to make something that can also satisfy hunger pains. There are tutorials to make beautiful elaborate desserts and more that you can take.

Hiking

Who doesn’t want a little more adventure in their life? The benefits of hiking are endless. You get to enjoy the fresh air of the great outdoors, spend more time in nature, and get your exercise in for the day. All these perks and more make hiking one of the most enriching hobbies for mothers to try. Go all out with extreme mountain trails, or keep it simple at your local park. Hiking is the kind of hobby that lets you take on as much or as little as you want at any point in time. Plus, the peace and quiet of the trail can give you a great way to unwind after a busy week.

Reading and Book Clubs

If you, like many adults, have a never-ending list of books you want to read, then this is the perfect hobby for you. Set sometime aside a few days a week to curl up with your latest favorite book. Making it part of your routine is a great way to establish some private time or unwind at the end of the day. Plus, when your kids see you reading, they’ll feel more encouraged to pick up their own books. While reading can be a great way to enjoy some escapism by yourself, it can also be a fantastic social habit. Book clubs allow you to meet new people who share your interests, whether it’s in-person or in a convenient (and socially distant) online group.
