Planting FRESH Fruits and Vegetables in the SPRING

Every year in the Spring and Summer, we plant a garden with several fresh fruits and vegetables. The boys love learning about the garden and helping plant (or play in the dirt). They love seeing the plants grow and change in size. Then picking the fruit and veggies when they are ripe to eat. There is a rule though that Mom has to inspect first and wash. Then they are classified as EDIBLE!

I sure do love garden fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and more! The crisp of a cucumber or snap peas is totally different then store bought.

We do purchase almost all our fruit and vegetable seeds and plants from Burpees. We tend to have the best luck with them growing and they have an excellent policy if the plants should die. They also ship the plants in the most optimal time and have a large selection. (I am not an affiliate of Burpee.) However, you can also see your local Home Depot or Lowes which carry some of fruit and vegetables too.

This year our first batch is as follows:

  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Strawberries

Our second batch that we will be doing in shortly is:

  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Grape Tomatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Tomatoes

Recommendations:

  • Read the tag or product sheet that comes with the plant to make sure to plant in the most optimal spot where the plant will get sunlight.
  • Make sure to water as directed.
    • I have had success with soil that has moisture or water control to prevent over watering and under watering. You can look at your local planting store they typically care this, but it is a little pricey compared to just plain soil. Though the savings you will have from having home grown fresh fruits and vegetables will offset the cost.

What do you plant? We would love to hear about your experiences!
