Becoming a mom of twins is twice the fun. This is true not only for first-time moms but also for moms who have already experienced the gratification of raising healthy and lovely children. In the recent past, more couples are opting to mount gender reveal parties to celebrate the coming of their blessing and to share the thrill with their family and friends. There are various ways to mount a twin gender reveal event despite the pandemic.
Read on as we share creative ideas to make your day memorable.
How to Do a Twin Gender Reveal Party
Twin gender reveal parties can be done in the garden, in the living room, or at the balcony of the couple’s home. Of course, they can be done in commercial venues to accommodate a larger number of expected well-wishers. But more often than not, do-it-yourself gender reveal parties are much more fun to be in because the couple and the organizers have the freedom to design the place according to their wishes and their budget, of course.
Minimalist couples would not want to have a lot of things going all over the place that may diminish the true purpose of the event. Just like bridal showers, a twin gender reveal party may be planned and organized by a close family member. The sister of the soon-to-be-mother of twins is usually at the helm of a party like this.
The first step in planning for a gender reveal party is to determine the time and date for the party. Plan it weeks ahead so you have enough time to have an ultrasound. You may opt for a 3D ultrasound for a clearer picture of the baby in the womb or a 4D ultrasound as it shows a video of the baby moving. Please consult your physician before you go for an ultrasound.
Planning the party weeks ahead is also much more convenient for the organizers as it will give them ample time to adjust any plans should issues arise.
For the twin gender reveal activity itself, consider the venue of the party. If it is a teleconferencing call, you are quite limited to a few activities. However, no rule is stopping you to do the following activities that are best set on a wider space.
The Gender Reveal with Pets
Dress up your dog according to the gender of your babies. If they are both girls, have the dog wear a pink tutu and pink headband and number the items as baby no. 1 and baby no. 2. If you have two dogs, then this is much better. Have both of them wear colored items according to the gender of your baby and have them parade in front of your guests.
Balloons in Boxes
Colored balloons will pop out of the boxes as soon as the parents open them. Have the guests count to five before you open the boxes to build suspense in the game.
Twin Confetti Cannons
Again, a countdown is needed before mom and dad pop the cannon. Colored confetti will shower the parents that will also reveal the gender of their babies.
Twin Smoke Cannons
Mom and dad will fire the color-coded smoke cannons after the countdown.
The Classic Gender Reveal Cake
This is a staple in all gender reveal parties and you should not have a problem ordering this from your favorite bakeshop. You may also add cupcakes for more fun especially if there are children among the guests.
The Siblings and the Twins
Have the older sibling wear color-coded attire that will indicate the gender of the babies. The older child may also carry a small board that lets the guests know the gender of the twins.
Twin Gender Reveal Decorations
Next on the list is to create a theme for the party. Hosts can either do a themed party or they can just go with the usual pink and blue theme. A themed party would mean more drama but it would also be a little more challenging to organize as far as decorations are concerned. For instance, if you would like to have a Star Wars-themed party, you would have to get that R2D2 or Yoda cupcakes and those lightsaber snacks. Your decorations would also have to reflect that outer space feel. Whereas, if you go for the pink and blue theme, it is as simple as zeroing in on pink and blue items in the venue.
It also helps to plan if you want to do the party through an online conferencing platform or an actual party as this will influence your budget for the party.
Occasions like this call for the perfunctory blue and pink balloons that can be strewn at designated corners of the event venue. Twin gender reveal parties would not be complete without the pink and blue balloons that aim to amplify the excitement of the guests. You may place a pink and blue balloon garland at the entrance of the venue and give your guests an instagrammable entrance. You may also place small pink and blue balloons on the dining table.
Next is the pink and blue attendance list. You may have your guests sign their names on a pink and blue paper that will serve as one of your keepsakes of the event.
Guests may also suggest baby names and drop their answers in a designated bowl. This is usually fun for older aunts and cousins who always have ideas on everything.
You can go further by adding pink and blue streamers, banners, party hats, foil backdrop, and even pink and blue table cover. Just remember not to overdo it. There is a way of putting things together that does not seem overdone.
If you have dogs, you may also have them wear pink and blue bow ties.
Of course, your cake should also follow the theme as well as the main beverage of the party. Gender reveal cakes are widely available so you will have no trouble telling your cake designer about your preference. Meanwhile, pink and blue lemonade is also a must at this party. Cupcakes are also a welcome treat.
You may also decorate your party with some quotes about twins which you can write on a chalkboard. Here are some quotes that you can use for the party:
“Pink or blue, it’s our dream come true.”
“It’s double the giggles and double the grins if you’re blessed with twins.”
“Little sisters or little misters?”
“Blue or pink, what do you think?”
Twin Gender Reveal Games
Start with the ballot board. Make your guests cast their votes on the gender of the babies. Remember to provide a ballot box for the game.
Before the actual gender reveals activity, tally the votes to see whether the guests guessed it right. You may also do an ‘Old Wives tales’ version of this to add more challenge to the game.
If you are having a teleconferencing party, have your guests type their guess in the chatbox and tally the scores later.
The Fact or Fiction Quiz. Divide your guests into team pink and team blue. Have them answer questions about pregnancy and newborns. The team that scores the highest wins the game. For this game, the host or organizer should prepare a token for the winners.
‘Baby’ songs. How many songs with the word, ‘Baby’ in them do you know? Make team Pink and team Blue guess the lyrics that follow the word ‘Baby’ in the song. Winners take home a token as well.
The Nursery Rhymes Game. Test the memory of the guests by making them guess the title of the nursery song that the mother and father of the twins will sing.
The Price Game. Guests will throw in their best guess for the prices of baby items such as cribs, walkers, strollers, diapers, clothes, feeding bottles, and others. Again, this is a game that pits one team against the other.
Name that Baby. Before the party, guests should give the hosts a copy of their baby pictures in digital format. At the party, guests will try to make a guess who the baby is by choosing the answers in a multiple-choice format to help those who do not personally know the other guests.
Change that Diaper. This game is quite popular in baby showers. Find out who among the teams can change diapers in a dash.
Twin babies charades. The two teams will guess some common newborn activities such as bath time, feeding time, first time to eat solid food, and many others.
Twin Tug of War. Similar to the original tug of war game, this twin tug of war will reveal who is the stronger team – Pink or Blue. This will elicit so much laughter as each team tries to outdo the other.
Funny Twin Gender Reveal Ideas
Colorful Baby Bump – the mother of the twins will wear a T-shirt with handprints. The color of the handprints indicates the gender of the twins. This means, two blue handprints would mean she is having two baby boys soon and pink handprints mean she is having twin girls soon.
The Boxer – The father of the twins stands in front of a small (soft) punching bag filled with colorful confetti – pink for twin girls and blue for twin boys; blue and pink for both genders. At the count of five, the father will punch the bag, and out goes the colorful confetti that will let the guests know the gender of the twins.
The Magician – The father of the twins, dressed as a magician, will put his hand inside a large black hat. At the count of the five, he will pull the stuffed rabbits inside. The color of the rabbits is either blue or pink, according to the babies’ gender.
Out of excitement, you can become too engrossed with planning a perfect party, but remember that at the end of the day, it’s all about celebrating the coming of a blessing. You know what they say about having baby twins, ‘twice the blessing, twice the fun.’ A fun day is exactly what you want your guests to remember whether you mount a lavish garden party or a simple teleconferencing party.
Sincerely,
