Having a baby is such a delight and more so when the couple is expecting twins. Double the baby means double the effort and so, this milestone can be quite challenging, especially for new parents. But before all the chaos, a twin baby shower is a must!
We will be giving you some great ideas for your upcoming twin baby shower but first, let’s go over the basics.
What is a twin baby shower?
A baby shower, in general, is a party held for expecting mothers where the guests, usually family and friends, bring gifts for the baby but in this case, the mother-to-be will be having twins. Unlike normal baby showers, the theme of the party will vary depending on the gender of the twins and the decorations usually have to showcase two babies instead of just one.
When to have a twin baby shower?
Pregnancy is not always the same for every woman and normally, it can be quite tough. Being pregnant with 2 babies, on the other hand, is an even bigger challenge so it is advisable to hold the baby shower earlier than usual. There is no “right time” to hold the twin baby shower but bearing twins can give discomfort to the mother eventually, so it is always best to set the celebration between 25 to 30 weeks into the pregnancy.
What to buy for a twin baby shower?
Before anything else, you must choose a theme. The overall aesthetic of the party will revolve around the theme so that is the first step. Once you have chosen a design, you should then purchase the right decorations. Whether it is for 2 girls, 2 boys, or one of each, the decors will bring the party to life so it must fit right into the category.
Invitation cards should also be prepared beforehand if you are planning to send out actual cards for the guests. Otherwise, you can just send out digital invitations. If you are planning to conduct little games for your guests, then you must also prepare the needed materials and the prizes before the party.
Last but certainly not least, what is a party without food? Make sure your guests will not only have fun in your twin baby shower but also leave with happy tummies!
Here are some twin baby shower theme ideas to help you with:
Noah’s Ark
In this famous biblical story, the animals were gathered and saved by 2’s before the great flood, making it perfect for twins! The animal theme will also look fun and is gender neutral so it will not matter much whether you are having girls, boys, or both.
Best Friends
It is no question that twins tend to have a greater bond than what normal siblings have and it is safe to assume that they will be the best of friends as they go through life together. From matching clothes to matching bracelets, this theme is another great idea perfect for upcoming twins!
Two Peas in a Pod
This is a classic theme for twin baby showers and for all the right reasons. Twins do come from the same “pod” technically and so this theme is just appropriate.
Double Trouble
A baby can be quite a handful and two babies will require double the effort, especially if the mom-to-be is expecting 2 boys! This theme will be a good way to address the reality of having multiple babies but in a fun way.
Pretty in Pink
Mothers who are expecting 2 girls will love this theme! Everything nice, sweet, and girly is how the party should look like. Nothing screams having girl babies than putting up pink decorations and having pink drinks and desserts.
Little Stars
From the famous nursery rhyme “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, this is a classy theme when one is expecting twins. Decorations will be all sparkly, glittery, and studded with star shapes. The venue could look a bit dark to simulate the night sky and have luminous star and moon decorations to give off the starry night vibes.
Twin Shower Games:
Double diaper Race
Guests must be divided into 2 teams and formed in 2 separate lines. One member at a time from each team will race to put a cloth diaper on a doll using safety pins then remove it for the next player. That player then runs back to their team and tags the next player. The host must observe the work of each player to see if they were able to do the task properly and the first team to finish wins.
Parents Know Best
The host has to prepare questions that parents and parents-to-be must know and the one who gets the most correct answers win.
Guess the Baby Food
Players will each have their turn to be fed with baby food. They are to be blindfolded and they must guess the flavor of the food they were given to taste. Other participants can either be out of the room or have earphones on while waiting for their turns. The player who guessed most flavors correctly wins.
Now that you have ideas for the theme, decorations, and games, it is time to discuss the food. Depending on how many guests you have invited, it is always best to prepare more food rather than fall short later on. What you will serve your guests will vary, depending also on the time when the party will be held. Lunch and dinner times will require heavier meals compared to a light afternoon snacking.
For lunch and dinner parties, a buffet table will be ideal. This way, the host doesn’t have to serve the guests because they will be the ones to get their food. For afternoon twin baby showers, it will be cute to have a little tea party especially if the guests are all females and the mother is expecting twin girls. You may prepare a grazing table where your guests can help themselves with cold cuts, fruits, cheeses, nuts, etc.
The twin baby shower need not be expensive and lavish. At the end of the day, it is important to remember that this party is a celebration of the coming of not just one life, but two! The real purpose of this event is to honor the twins and the mother who’s bearing them.
